Special Educational Needs
We believe that all our children are entitled to have equal access to all the experiences provided by our school, all our children are entitled to experience our broad and balanced curriculum, and all our children should be given the opportunity to develop to their full potential. To achieve this, a need for extra support may arise because of social, development or educational factors or because a child may be exceptionally gifted. Therefore we have developed the following aims:
Our school is ideally suited to children with Special Educational Needs of whatever kind. As a small school we know all our children as individuals and this offers great benefits. Children who are on IEPS are monitored carefully by their class teacher. The SENCO oversees this provision and monitors the termly IEP review. Children with more specific, complex needs and/or on an Early Help are supported by the SENCO, who reviews IEP with key staff. The SENCO also coordinates provision with key professionals including specialist teachers and the educational psychologist who visits termly to review provision and give advice. Transition is key for all children but particularly for those with specific more complex needs, team around the child meetings are arranged to ensure it is as smooth as possible.
The premises of our school are readily accessible and flexible to those with physical disabilities. We have two ramps with handrails into School, a disabled toilet and level access within for children with mobility problems - see our accessibility plan below. We also have a sensory, calming room - The Den. Otherwise individual needs will be accommodated for as they arise. Click here for our SEN policy and here to view the local offer.
