Football - Mr Ellison or Mr Davis runs football training all year for Y4 - Y6, with Y3 starting in the summer term.   The school has its own mixed team and girls' team which take part in tournaments and competitions with other local schools. We host the annual Long Marton Shield tournament in May.

 

Netball - Mrs Birkett runs the netball team and does weekly training (from September-October half-term and February half-term to the end of the summer term) with pupils from Y4 - Y6, with Y3 starting in the summer term. They also take part in local tournaments and competitions, and we host the annual Long Marton Shield tournament in May.

 

 

Kwik Cricket - Mr Davis runs cricket training in the summer term for Y3 - Y6 pupils. We  have a mixed team and girls' team that enter a variety of local competitions. Our cricket teams have been particularly successful over recent years and we encourage children to progress to local clubs.

 

 

Tag Rugby - Mr Davis or Mr Ellison runs Tag Rugby training

through the Autumn and Spring terms for Y4 - Y6 pupils. We host the annual Helm Wind tag rugby tournament in September to start each school year.

 

Choir - Mrs Bainbridge and Mrs Eva run a choir on Wednesday afternoons for pupils from Y3 - Y6.  For four out of the last six years the school choir have taken part in the Young Voices concert, performing at Manchester Arena.

"Pupils, staff and parents travelled to the Manchester Arena to participate in the Young Voices event involving 6,000 children. This supports pupils’ good spiritual, moral, social and cultural development." Ofsted February 2019

The choir also sing in the local community at Center Parcs, church services, community lunches and local care homes at Christmas.

Piano - Lessons are provided for Y3 to Y6s with Mrs Bainbridge.

 

Guitars - Lessons are available for KS 2

pupils during the week with Mrs Bainbridge. Scroll to the bottom to see a video of one of our Y6s playing.

 

Chess - Mr Davis runs an informal chess club throughout the year. The school host the Rotary Club of Appleby Shield competition each year which has schools entering from the Eden Valley (and as far away as Carlisle) in the spring term. We also run a chess workshop for children from the Eden Valley annually, in conjunction with Cumbria Junior Chess and the local enrichment cluster. Children also enjoy chess at playtimes and lunch times with our giant chess set. We were proud to host the Cumbria Junior Chess Championships in September 2023.
